I double checked it before my post, and it did work for me on the
favorites list. I haven't checked yet on the reading list, but I just
assumed it would be the same.

This works the same way it does elsewhere on the iPhone. When in your
favorites list, flick up or down until you hear delete and then double
tap. You may need to make sure you're roter is set to action first.
You can also double tap the edit button at the bottom of the screen,
double tap the button that says delete the page you want to delete and
then double tap the delete button at the bottom of the screen.
