It sounds like you need sighted help. Maybe someone who could watch the video?

A rectangle, by definition, has two short sides and two long sides.

If you got the Book Reading Aid, the Stand came with it most likely and it is
stuck to the stand with the microsuction tape but if you pull up on it it will
separate but it takes a bit of force. Of course, you want to make sure you are
pulling on the right item, hence, maybe needing someone sighted to assist.

Or, do you use Be My Eyes or one of those that can get sighted help via the
iPhone?

Or, have a sighted friend who has an iPhone or Skype that you can connect to?

I’m totally blind, so I can’t be of much more help.

Richard

Subject: Re: Setting up fopydo and bookreading aid?

Hi Richard. Thanks for the instructions.

They're not making sense. My foam pads only rotate one way... Away from the
base... The base meaning the book reading aid... Right? Lift the stand off the
base? I can't. Longer side facing me? It's like a rectangle. Sorry... Just
confused. Lol.

Help?

Fopydo Stand instructions and video can be found at:

As you remove a folded stand from the zip-lock bag hold it in your hands by
shorter edges. The side with wires should be in your left hand and the wires
should be facing down. Reach with your right hand thumb towards the top center
of the stand and press the tab in the center to unlock. Please note that when
you fold the stand for storage or transport you can push the tab back to lock
it in a folded form.

Now open the top part of the stand - it unfolds into one layer of corrugated
plastic. Hold the short edge with wires in your left hand and the short edge
with a tab in the center in your right hand. With your right hand bend the
right part of the stand at the crease placed around six inches from the right
short edge.

Now hold the folded crease in your right hand. In other words you should hold a
crease with two layers of corrugated plastic in your right hand and the short
edge with wires in a single layer of corrugated plastic in your left hand.
Start pushing the crease forward with your right hand forming a triangular
shelf till the tab reaches the cut-out for locking the shelf. The center tab
snaps into the cut-out and forms the shelf for your mobile device.

Now turn the stand so that the shelf is at the top and the wires are at the
bottom. Turn the wires by 90 degrees in the same direction as the top shelf -
the wires form the base of the stand. Press the wires all the way into the
flutes of corrugated plastic. Place the stand on a flat surface.

<image001.jpg>

The top shelf of the assembled stand is 10.5 inches from the surface. This is a
proper distance to scan a letter or A4 size document using an iPhone 6 or an
iPhone 5 - so if this is your goal you do not need to extend L-shaped wires. If
you are using an iPhone 4s, or if you want to scan larger documents you need to
extend the wires from the vertical back side of the stand. The vertical back
side of the stand contains three round cut-outs half inch in diameter near the
top shelf along right and left edges. These cut-outs are 1 inch apart and wires
run near the middle of the cut-outs. In order to read a letter size document
with an iPhone 4s extend the wires by 1 inch on both sides - till you feel the
wire tips in the middle of the first pair of cut-outs (right and left) placed
one inch below the top shelf. You may extend the wires further the second or
the third cut-out in order to read larger size documents.

Now place your stand on a stable flat surface. Place your mobile device on the
top shelf of the stand. The long edge of the mobile device should be placed
along the flutes of corrugated plastic and the camera should be about half inch
in front of the half circle guide on the edge of the top shelf. There are
several rectangular cut-outs along the edges of the top shelf intended to help
in placing your mobile device straight. In addition, there is a section of
non-slip micro suction tape on the top shelf to secure your mobile device in
place.

Place your document between the wires, a shorter edge of the document should be
next to the vertical back side of the stand. Now the camera that is placed half
an inch in front of the half circle guide points to the middle of the letter or
A4 size document.

We hope that the stand will serve you well that it will make it easy for you to
read documents.

Assembly Instructions:

If you plan to use the stand without the base, the stand can be erected after
removal from the base. In this case, instructions for rotating the foam pads
can be ignored. If you are using the stand only, any instructions for the base
can also be ignored. Place a folded book reading aid on the table with the flat
side down. Rotate it so that the longer edge is facing you. Slide out the foam
pad on the side that is further from you till it is clear off the base. The
foam pad is connected to the base using wires that slide out. You can push the
pad out using your thumbs and use your fingers to hold the edge of the base. Do
not remove the wires from the base, just slide the wires out till the foam pad
is entirely clear off the base. Rotate the foam pad till the side with foam
points towards the base. The rotation is a 270 degree rotation, the foam pad is
now 90 degrees from the base.

NOTE: the foam pad rotates in one direction only, towards the base. There are
breaking tabs to prevent the foam pad from making a complete circle. The tabs
stop the pad from moving while securing book pages from moving. The tabs also
aid in determining the direction of rotation. Rotate the base so that the side
with the rotated foam pad is facing you. Slide the second foam pad out till it
is clear off the base. Rotate the second foam pad till the side with foam
points towards the base. Lift the stand off the base.

NOTE: The stand is held in place by foam pads for transport or storage. Once
foam pads are extended off the base, the stand can be lifted. Micro-suction
tape on the side of the stand facing the base may adhere slightly to the base
and you may hear a sound once the micro-suction tape gets detached.

The stand needs to be erected. First hold the stand vertically on the short
edge so that the stand wires are on the table and the short edge with the hinge
is at the top. Rotate both stand wires by 90 degrees towards the side of the
stand without wires.

NOTE: Wires support the stand in a vertical position. The wires and the
vertical support now make an L shape.

If you purchased the stand separately from the base, the wires have vinyl end
caps. You need to remove the vinyl end caps from the wire tips to use the stand
with the base. Pull the end caps off the wires. Fold the side of the stand
without wires in half towards the side with wires. A tab at the end of the side
without wires goes into a matching opening on the side with wires -- this
opening is located about 3 inches below the top hinge.

NOTE: This last step creates a top shelf for placing the mobile device. Before
the first time the stand is folded the fold line will feel like a slightly
indented ridge. Fold the stand along this indented line so that the line is on
the inside of the fold. When completed the hinge and the shelf and slanting
support will make a triangle. The hinge and the vertical support will be at 90
degrees from the short part of the folded side of the stand, with the folded
part of this side angling towards the vertical support and down towards the
wire supports. The top part of this triangle is the shelf. The micro suction
tape can be felt on the top part of the shelf near the tactile marker. Combine
the stand with the base by sliding the wire tips into the marked notches on the
short edge of the base. The notches are located on both short sides of the
base, so either side may be used. Leave a gap about two inches wide between the
vertical wall of the stand and base. This gap facilitates fitting a book on the
base. There are tactile marker holes on the vertical support of the stand to
help in raising the shelf level. The wires will fill all of these holes when
the stand is not raised to increase its height.

Operation Instructions:

Slide the foam pads out as necessary, if the spine of the book does not fit
easily between the foam pads. Open the book approximately in the middle and
place the spine of the book in the middle of the foam pads. Slide the pads in
to hold the book in place.

NOTE: Books are widest when open in the middle because the width of the spine
is added to the width of the front cover and the back cover.

The base is close in size to an international A4 or a US letter size sheet of
paper. If the book fits entirely on the base it can be read like a sheet of
paper. In this case, slide the stand wires all the way towards the base. Place
your mobile device on the top shelf of the stand. The camera of your mobile
device should be about a finger width in front of a tactile marker in the
middle of the top shelf. The short edge of your mobile device should reach over
the ledge of the top shelf. If the book does not fit entirely on the base, let
the same width hang out on each side. Slide the stand wires until the vertical
wall of the stand touches the book's cover. You need to raise the stand up by
about the same distance that the book cover hangs out beyond the base. Place
your mobile device on the top shelf of the stand. The camera of your mobile
device should be about the same distance in front of a tactile marker in the
middle of the top shelf that the book cover hangs out beyond the base - in this
way the camera is above the middle of the book. The short edge of your mobile
device should reach over the ledge of the top shelf. If you scan a batch of
documents the placement of the camera is the same as for the book that fits
entirely on the base. Turn the book to the first page and start reading page by
page using your application of choice. You may loosen one of the foam pads to
make it easier to turn the book from the middle to the first page. The best way
to turn a page is to slide your finger below the page towards the spine of the
book and then across to the other side, let the foam pad hold the page once it
turns over. If you have a problem reading a thicker book, just raise the stand
about an inch more without moving the camera.

Document orientation:

For single sheets or a stack of single pages, place the material to be scanned
so the bottom of the text is furthest from the stand vertical support and
towards the open wire ends. The document should fit between the wire supports
and the top of page or pages should touch the vertical support. If you are
using the stand with the base and scanning a single sheet or a stack of papers,
the top of the text should be nearest the vertical support and the bottom of
the text will be on the side of the base opposite the vertical support. Make
sure the foam pads are off the base so the documents can rest flat on the base.
If you want to secure a stack of papers, you can use the foam pads to secure a
thick stack of papers. The foam pads secure the stack of papers on the left and
right edges of the document.

NOTE: This orientation is different from scanning a book. When a book is
scanned it is secured at the top and bottom with the spine of the book in the
center of the foam pads.

To scan a book, place the book so that the top and bottom of the pages are
towards the foam pads. The left page should be towards the vertical support,
and the right page should be on the side nearest the open side. All text should
be facing up.

NOTE: knfbReader and TextGrabber applications identify text orientation
automatically, so if you are using these applications text will be read even if
documents or books are placed upside-down.

Dis-Assembly Instructions:

Disconnect the stand from the base by sliding out the stand wires from the
base. Remove the tab locking the top shelf of the stand.

NOTE: First lift the tab up and then remove it from the opening.

Rotate the stand wires by 90 degrees and fold the stand flat.

NOTE: There is a locking tab at the center of the side with wires. This locking
tab may be pushed through a matching opening on the side without wires to keep
both sides locked - this is useful when the stand is transported without the
base. You can also do this if you want the extra security when storing the
stand on the base. If you have vinyl end caps, you can replace them on the
stand if you used it with the base by pushing the end caps on to the wires.
Slide both foam tabs out off the base and then rotate foam pads so that the
side with the foam is facing down, to reduce the height. Foam pads rotate out
in the direction away from the base.

Place a folded stand on the base, the side with the wires should be on top. The
side without wires has a strip of micro suction tape attached to it. The micro
suction tape will not collect dust when it is on the base. However, if
necessary, the micro suction strip may be cleaned using a moist paper towel or
cloth. The stand is made of corrugated plastic that is water resistant, but
avoid soaking the stand itself since the stand would have to dry before it can
be used to read documents. The micro-suction tape is used to help holding the
device in place while scanning. Slide both foam pads on top of the folded
stand, onto the base.

NOTE: Foam pads keep the folded stand in place on the base. The zip-lock bag
protects the Fopydo Book Reading Aid from moisture. It is recommended to store
the reader in the bag.

We hope that the book reading aid will serve you well that it will make it easy
for you to read printed books and documents.
