Just want to thank you for the suggestion but, sadly, it didn't work and
there was no way I could get past the message about inserting a sim
card, so I guess I'll have to go and get one! <Smiles>

that it was asking for a sim to be inserted to complete the setup. This
did not happen with previous iOS9 upgrades and I was, as a result, able
to use the phone, without a sim, at least to take calls when in our
home. Now I cannot do this unless I put a sim in it and it looks as
though I have no option than to do so.
