Would you happen to have only readable shared or subscribed calendars selected? Double tap the calendars tab at the bottom of the screen to see which calendars are chosen. You need one of the main calendars selected. I myself have the All iCloud calendars chosen, and everything works fine here.
Another thing I found on the Apple forums, is to go to settings / iCloud, and turn off the calendar by unchecking it, then turn it back on by checking the box. This has helped some people who has hae the same problem. Good luck!
