Hi Terri,

Don’t we all love SIRI! “Cutie Larry”, how cute *smile*.
Anyhow, there is a new Apple TV just because the third gen Apple TV came out in
2012 and in terms of technology that of course is ancient history. Seeing new
devices with new capabilities and new features is just the way things go.
The new fourth generation ‘Apple TV uses an operating system Apple has
developed and which is now called TVOS so its in line with there other naming
conventions such as “iOS” and “Mac OS”.
TVOS just like iOS and Mac OS includes full accessibility via Voiceover and it
also includes SIRI. The remote that comes with the fourth generation Apple TV
is a Bluetooth remote and has an integrated microphone so you can push and hold
a dedicated SIRI button and talk to it. You can tell it to open apps, to search
for movies or to play music if you have an Apple Music subscription. Since the
latest update you can also use it inside any search box to dictate text and if,
for example, you want to log in to your Netflix account you can now even
dictate your user name and password.
The other big difference as some have already pointed out are apps. There is
now a dedicated app store for the Apple TV and any third-party developer can
now built apps for the Apple TV or take an existing app they may have for iOS
and bring it over to the Apple TV. On your third generation Apple TV
essentially things like Youtube, Netflix and so on were also apps, but they
were apps Apple built and integrated with the operating system. The new Apple
TV also has apps that come with it just like the iPhone, but it now has an App
Store app just like you have on your iPhone and you can go there and look for
other apps. There is a purchased section and any apps you have purchased on
your iPhone who have a compatible Apple TV app will show up here. For example,
if you have Netflix, Youtube and the Speedtest app on your iPhone, you would
see all three of these apps on the Apple tV since they all exist for the ?Apple
TV. You would download them just as you download apps on your iPhone and then
use them on your Apple TV.
The Apple TV is also an Airplay device so you can play something on your iPhone
and send it to the Apple TV using Airplay, but you can do that also with your
third gen model.

You can get a fourth generation Apple TV with 32 Gb of storage for $149 in the
US, so if you can afford to put aside $12.50 a month you could buy one in one
year. Hope the explanations make sense, I bet you could still get $40 or $50
for your third gen Apple TV on eBay.

Regards,
Sieghard

Hello one Tomore,

Thank you cutie Larry, and mama peach for answering my question. I really do
appreciate it. What exactly does the new AppleTV do?
Why are there two different models available?

I know Steph was discussed about this earlier. But honestly, I did not read the
mail., Because I don't why read it, when I knew I couldn't get it? It just
would have frustrated me. I knew I couldn't afford it.
So this is why I still use my older model.

Thank you so much!

Terri

You have to purchase the 4th generation Apple TV in order to add apps. This

what they give you.

Subject: question regarding Apple TV and apps

Hello everyone,

I have an older Apple TV. It is the 3rd generation model. I would love to have
one of the newer ones. But I just can afford something like that, at the moment.

Anyway, I was wondering, can I add apps to the Apple TV?
If so, how does work?
Also, what kind of apps can I add?

I would love to add Spotify, if possible. And maybe Audible, once I figure out
how to purchase it. Lol!

Thank you,

Terri
