Hi Fazil,

I went ahead and exported a Whats App conversation to my PC except I chose to
save it directly to my Dropbox instead of emailing it in order to save myself
one step of saving the attachment. The conversation was saved as a
zipped/compressed file and I then right clicked it and extracted it to a folder.

Interestingly enough in this conversation which has something like 25 or 30
voice messages in it, most of them were in AAC format which I could easily play
in Windows Media player or iTunes. However, as you said, some of them had the
.opus file extension. Opus is a lossy format which is used a lot in interactive
voice messaging applications and for Voip calls as it is a format which can
adjust to the available bandwidth and hence produce the best quality possible.

I Googled “How to play Opus files on the PC” and found out very quickly that
the free VLC Media Player was the most popular choice. Apparently Foobar 2000
and Winamp can also play Opus files. I then Googled “VLC Media Player”, the
first result was the main home page, I found the download link easily by using
the Jaws Key + F7 key to pull all links in a listbox and typing “D” for
Download.

I downloaded and installed the application on my Windows 10 laptop (it will
work fine on Windows 7 or 8/8.1) and then pressing enter on one of the .opus
audio files started playing it immediately in VLC Media Player. You can pause
and resume with the spacebar, but I did not play around with fast forwarding or
rewinding, you would have to check how this works.

Regards,
Sieghard

Subject: Playing A WhatsApp Message On Another Device?

Hi, list.
The voice messages that we get in whatsApp, can they be played on another
device?
The reason I am asking this is that I emailed a WhatsApp chat to myself and
opened this email in my desktop computer.
The chat attachment had the text message, an image file and the following audio
file:
2016-05-25-AUDIO-00000001.opus.
When I tried to play 2016-05-25-AUDIO-00000001.opus In Winamp or Total
Recorder, I got the error message that this file can not be opened.
My question is, Can the file with opus extension be played in WhatsApp only ?
Thanks!
