Hello,
I use iBooks quite frequently and I have never had the problem of words being
announced twice at a page change.
Just a thought, I have auto-hyphenation turned off and things work just fine.
By default it is on. So those of you who have this problem might want to switch
it off. You will find the settings for iBooks under settings then go to iBooks.
HTH.
