Hello, I too have had an enormously difficult time joining this list.
I am did up connecting with someone who forwarded a message to the moderator on my behalf. Marc send me a direct email invitation to join the list. I just have to accept it, and was immediately back on. I believe the methods for joining these lists should be revised. Sending a subscribe message to the Google groups address generates an e-mail to the sender asking to write back a reason for joining the list. Apparently this goes out for approval, but it's never reviewed by a moderator. This resulted in my request to join to be denied several times before I got really upset about my ability to join back on the list with a different email address. This is discouraging for people who are trying to learn how to use new technologies. I would recommend that the procedures for joining the list be revised to make it possible for people to join.
