Reggie,

If you are running Jaws 12 iTunes should work just fine and I recommend you
listen to Jonathan's 2 Freedom Scientific FS Casts which I think were from
January and February 2012. It's hard for me to give any recommendations
based on your statement "absolutely nothing was there that was supposed to
be there". I bought my first iDevice, an iPod Touch Third Generation, in
September of 2009. Jaws 13 came out in October 2011, Jaws 12 would have been
October 2010 and Jaws 11 October 2009 which means that I was probably still
on Jaws 10 for a months or 2 with the iPod. There were short periods of time
when especially the iTunes Store part in iTunes wasn't working so good with
Jaws, but this hasn't been an issue for quite some time and I actually quite
like iTunes and think that once you take the time to learn a few basics it's
pretty easy to navigate and use. I have been using Jaws since 1989 and never
missed an update because in order for a company such as Freedom Scientific
to improve Jaws and keep up with new Windows versions etc. it's important
that they have some source of revenue and I consider it actually rather
inexpensive to pay $200 every 2 years to maintain my Software Maintenance
Agreement which entitles me to updates as they come out. I have Jaws
Professional and I'm not sure if it's not even a bit cheaper to maintain the
SMA for the basic Jaws which for most people is probably enough just as the
Home Edition of Windows 7, for example, is sufficient for most people.
Considering that most of us on this list spend $200 or more in 3 months to
maintain our iPhone plans I should think to pay that amount every 2 years is
very doable. Free screenreaders such as NVDA are fine and maybe do what they
have to do for some people, but they won't do for others. I don't know if
your Windows XP with Jaws is your main computer, but of course eventually
you won't get around upgrading to Windows 7, we all still have to see what
the game is with Windows 8, but at this point I certainly don't plan to
upgrade. I amy do so on a machine at home just to keep on top of things, but
the 6 computers at my business will stay on Windows 7 and I have a feeling
that many companies will completely skip Windows 8 just as they stayed with
XP, skipped Vista and then adopted Windows 7. All I can say is that you
might want to revisit iTunes, I don't mind trying to help if you want, just
write to me off-list if you would like to do that, but I don't see a reason
why this shouldn't work for you. If you want to find out your Jaws version,
just do a Jaws Key+J and then press the "a" for "About". You can do this
from the desktop or from within any application and it will bring up the
About box and read the version and you can use the Jaws cursor to review it.

Regards,
Sieghard
