Hello Jewel,

This is Mark, the moderator of this group.

Alan is absolutely correct. Thread hijacking is extremely inconvenient to
those of us using threaded conversation views in our email clients.

I believe it depends on the mailing list domain server-side settings but, in
the case of Google groups, removing the contents of the original message and
changing the subject line will not remove the original message header
information.

Consequently, as Alan suggested, be certain to create a new message to the
list, from scratch.

Quote, "If you can't remember the posting address of the list, please copy it
from a message to which you are replying, cancel that message, start a brand
new message, and paste the address you copied into the To field. Now you can
type in your new subject since you'll be starting a new thread." End Quote.

Thank you,

Mark

I apologise. I thought that I had removed all traces of the KNFB post.
As I often do this, to save myself the bother of typing the address for a new
message, I do the reply to on an existing message to the list, and then remove
all traces of it.
Apparently, on this occasion, I must have neglected to do this.
NOOne, in the past, has advised me that they have a problem with it.

Subject: Thread hijacking was Re: Word Ladder was KNFB Reader

Jewel,

I realize I'm not the moderator and I beg Mark's and Cara's forgiveness, but
when you reply to another post and change the subject, you hijack the thread as
you just did with this thread on the Knfb reader. Those of us who read email by
threads as I do on my iPhone get messed up if we're following the thread you
hijacked either because we're interested or we posted to it as I did. Even if
you completely erase the thread history and totally replace the subject, the
message is tagged in such a way that the posting history is still tied to the
thread yet those following along by subject using a threaded email client will
be out of luck since you've hijacked the subject.

If you can't remember the posting address of the list, please copy it from a
message to which you are replying, cancel that message, start a brand new
message, and paste the address you copied into the To field. Now you can type
in your new subject since you'll be starting a new thread.

Thanks so much for not hijacking threads in the future.

Alan Lemly
