Hi! I wouldn't know about English but dictating in Croatian could be better. I'll try some tips suggested bellow but, from my experience Google Voice Input works far better for my language than Siri Dictation. Besides, it's not just the matter of understanding dictated speech, it is also about he size and complexity of used dictionary. If the dictation doesn't have some words and phrases in there it can't type it down and my opinion is Google did a better job with it. On the other hand when I dictate in my iPhone I can dictate punctuation and it is displayed as punctuation. When using Google Voice this is still not supported for my mothertongue so... It is best to try it out for yourself.
