I just spent a couple of hours with Nearby Explorer and, in my case at least, it was not nearly as good at announcing cross-streets as accurately as Seeing Eye GPS. Also, like you, I find that the distances that Nearby gives are too far away in order to be useful to me. As a result, I decided to purchase Seeing Eye GPS XT as I do most of my traveling in vehicles and need that timely feedback. For instance, you can be right at or even across an intersection, and the last info you got from nearby was that you were still some ways away from that intersection. In this respect, I find Seeing Eye more accurate. This issue has been discussed with the good people at a pH, and they have worked on it. But for whatever reason, for me at least, Seeing Eye is better.
