Jenn Thanks for that. No – I have no volume limit set in the Music settings but we do have this item which says ‘EU volume limit’ in that section which sets the maximum volume to the EU recommended maximum level which might be the culprit. I hadn’t noticed it before and I didn’t have it on.
If I turn that on then it limits the max volume to 68%. When I do this I can up the volume while I’m playing media to that limit and never get the announcement about reaching maximum volume which solves the problem – but 68% isn’t that loud when listening to books out and about. Hey-ho. Maybe it’s a Europe-only issue although I would have thought other people would nevertheless be getting the announcement about approaching the volume limit regardless of what that upper limit is set to.
