Hello Terri and all. Looks like you've gotten a lot of great suggestions 
already. King of Dragon Pass remains my favorite story and simulation game. It 
has a learning curve and is one of those really deep and rewarding games. A 
Dark Room is another great and very unique accessible game. There are many 
choose your own adventure games like the Delite Games and Choise Of games. 
Those are very simple to play.
