Just a quick comment regarding Apple's replacing of broken earphones.
Strictly speaking earphones are only covered by warranty if you have
purchased Apple Care. I am not sure if Apple at their discression does
sometimes replace a set of earphones even without the Apple Care plan, but I
just went through this last week. When I bought my iPhone 4S I was told that
among other things the earphone coverage was a consideration and since I had
broken earphones before I thought that even if I get one set of new
earphones out of it this will already cover half of the Apple Care plan. So
I called Apple since I am not anywhere within 600 miles of an Apple store
and after they verified that I had the Apple Care Plan they sent me a new
set of earphones with a prepaid UPS return envelope. They do take a credit
card number and preauthorize the $31 or whatever it is and if you don't send
your broken earphones back they will eventually charge your card. I sent my
broken ones back right away after I received the package and within about 4
or 5 days received an email confirming that they had been received and
everything was fine.

Regards,
Sieghard

Hi, just so you know I've heard if you send the broken iPhone earbuds to
apple they will replace them. You may want to call and confirm that if you
haven't already thrown them away.
