I am not sure if overtime they disappear if you don't do this next, but after doing what Sigard says, I then go on the bottom tabs to albums, double tap that, look for what's called "recently deleted", double tap that, double tap the button that says select, after which there are choices, "delete all", "recover all". Double tap on delete all.
