I think you have an iPhone 7 which means you have 3D Touch and the only thing you have to make sure is to do your double tap and hold very lightly, if you use any sort of pressure it will be interpreted as a 3D press. If you're focused on an app you want to delete, flick up or down, if you have the action rotor set, and you will find "arrange apps"double tap that and then flick up to hear "default". That should say delete. But it doesn't. Double tap that and you should be in business.
