Hi Mary,

I don't own any Android devices, but I wonder if that is one of these cases
where you need to log into your Apple account and get a one-time password or,
as some places call it, an app specific password.
If you use two-factor authentication for Outlook.com you need such a password
for setting up your email on a PC in Outlook 2016.
I just signed in to my account at http://appleid.apple.com and Apple does call
these type of passwords app-specific passwords.
Once you are signed in you can just go to the Security section (Security is a
heading level 2) and then you have several heading level 3 items: Password,
Two-Factor Authentication, Trusted Phone numbers and then you come to
App-Specific Passwords. Underneath that is simply a "Generate Password" button,
activate it and if you are using Windows with Jaws you get dropped into
Application Mode and are in an edit box. You can enter a label for the password
you are generating, e.g. Apple Music. Then find and activate the "Create"
button and a password will be generated. The password that is created will be
sixteen letters in groups of 4 with a dash in between each group, here is an
example of one I generated:
sndm-zuup-arlp-ckxi
Try to generate a password like this and use it when you sign in to Apple Music
on your Android, if you aren't prompted to enter the security code displayed on
your iPhone then this should work.

Regards,
Sieghard

Subject: Apple Music with two factor identification on an android device

It seems like this sort of falls right between these lists, so I hope nobody on
either one decides to send flames my way. I have a Nexus six android phone, and
hopefully soon will have a Z TE Exxon seven mini. I have had an Apple Music
account since it started a few years ago on my iPhone, then on the Nexus, when
that became available. It has worked well on the iPhone and continues to do so.
Recently, I upgraded to two factor authentication, which requires that you get
a code which you must type in before your device can have access to your Apple
ID and account. The Nexus six had worked great up until I had to redo
everything with the two factor identification and my new password. So, what you
do is you type in your Apple ID if it's not already there, which mine was, then
you type in your password and sign in. At that point, you get an identification
code from Apple, and you get a note on your android device telling you that you
must type this identification code into the password field after your password.
On Apple products, the code field where you type is separate from the password
field. So, on the Nexus, after being told that you have to enter this code, you
have a retry and a cancel. cancel takes you completely out of the dialogue and
back into the program. Heading retry gives you access to the same fields as
before, Apple ID and password. Apple ID is filled in. At this point, if I type
my password followed by a space followed by the necessary code, I get told that
my password is wrong. If I run it together with my password, same thing. It's
wrong. I am out of ideas. Has anyone successfully signed in to an android
device with two factor identification for an Apple ID?
Mary
