I agree, I have no problem entering my password when buying something, but having to do so every time I just want to update my already existing apps does become a hassle. Probably one of those security steps needed at first to get people used to downloading apps and feeling safe about it, but now as the action has become so ubiquitous to folks and Apple's more less demonstrated that their purchasing of apps and access to your credit card is safe, then it's time to retire that step.

It is my understanding that you also don't have to put in your Apple Id password any more when you download a free app. As long as the password is required when money changes hands I don't see any security issues. The way I have worked around this, is I update them in iTunes, and then sink my phone. The other thing is, when you attempt to install an app, it doesn't ask you for your password to your apple ID, this is a little shaky to me, maybe they will correct it by Wednesday.
