I tried using the Apple Store app at midnight on Friday morning
eastern time, and it wasn't quite ready for taking orders for the
iPhone 5 at that time. Then, when I tried about quarter till six
on Friday morning, I was indeed given the two week time frame.
And, well, grin, as I mentioned on another list, seeing as this
meant I wasn't going to be able to get the phone delivered on the
first day folks could receive them, I promptly put the money I
had gotten out of my savings account back in there and decided to
wait a bit longer. Out of curiosity, when I checked again Friday
night, I was given a two to three week time for the phone to be
shipped, and that is the same time frame I'm being given as I
check now on this Sunday evening. Now, when I pre-ordered the
iPhone 4S last year, I was able to do so on the Friday evening
after I got home from work, and get it delivered on that first
available day. I recall trying to order it that morning before I
went to work, but I was kind of rushing and just wasn't quite
doing everything correctly.

Thinking AboutUpgrading to iPhone 5
For what it's worth, I've seen several references on Twitter
tonight
that Apple sold out of the pre-orders for next week's phones
within 60
minutes. I was able to pre-order mine over the phone with Apple
several hours ago, and it should be sent out within 2-3 weeks.
Though
the wait is a little long, at least I'll be garanteed an iPhone
5,
unlike the many people I have a feeling who will show up the day
it is
in stores and have to go back and forth to/from the store, or
from
store to store, in order to find one in stock. It will be hard
to
wait, but at least I can put iOS 6 on my iPhone 4 next week and
start
playing with things a little.

Wayne

It's funny because I don't know of anyone who is
underwhealmed by the
iPhone 5. In fact, I think there was more negative reaction to
the 4 and 4S
among the people I know than the 5. I think that we really
sometimes miss
the point of these releases because we naturally look at the
accessibility
features over anything else.

Hello Everyone,
I went into the A T & T Wireless store a few hours ago to see if
I am
eligible for an upgrade. Somehow I knew I wouldn't be but I
just wanted
to
confirm (Smile). Not that it matters as I have decided to
purchase
iPhone
5.
I was amazed at the fact that the store was jam-packed with
customers.
While I no longer frequent the A T & T Wireless or Verizon
Wireless
stores
as much as I used to, I visit enough to have been truly
surprised. There
was a waiting list to enter the store.
I asked the receptionist why the store was so busy and she said
it was
because of all the people who are pre-ordering iPhone 5.
It would appear that not everyone was underwhelmed by Apple's
keynote
presentation.
After leaving the store, I decided to go over to the Verizon
Wireless
store
and, it too, was jam-packed with people preordering.
All I can say is that there appears to be something magical
about the
Apple-effect, as I have come to think of it.
By the way, I decided not to wait at the A T & T wireless store.
The
receptionist reminded me that I can check to see if I am
eligible for an
upgrade by doing the following from my iPhone:
1.
Open the Phone App.
2.
Switch to the Dial Pad.
3.
Dial *639#
4.
Tap the Call button. By the way, 6 3 9 spells the word NEW.
You will
receive a text message stating your eligibility status.
