Hi Terri 

I can't answer your last question as I only have experience of using the 
Braille Note Apex. I think the clear answer for me not only applies to the 
iPhone but also to the use of iPad or a laptop. You aren't solely dependent on 
speech for accessing what's on the screen, you can read it through braille. 
This, of course, is a necessity for a deafblind person. There is a further 
reason in that you can write your texts, emails or comments on facebook using a 
braille keyboard rather than a keyboard on the screen. No doubt, the cost of 
braille displays are very expensive which means you have to give it much 
consideration before spending this money but direct access and reading oneself 
rather than listening is empowering. I hope that helps.
