Hello Richard, et al:

Just so you all know, I have contacted Terri, off-list, regarding this topic.

However, I would like to say, on-list, that while this app is completely
VoiceOver accessible, one must learn not only how to use the app, which, in
itself, is quite simple, but also how to use the public library system which,
also, is quite simple. The challenge is learning them both, simultaneously.

When learning to use the app, please keep in mind that, unlike many of the
VoiceOver accessible apps, OverDrive was tailored to an already existing public
library lending system. Consequently, the logic of how it works is not the
most intuitive ever created.

Once you learn how to search and download 1 title, you will soon discover how
easy it is; the problem is that many give up before learning how to download
that first title.

While I cannot write a tutorial on how to use this app because, quite frankly,
it would take a small novella in order to insure that all scenarios were
covered, I will be happy to provide some broad strokes on how to get started:

1.
The main menu button, located in the upper right corner of the display is key
to exploring your options. Return to it whenever you get lost or need to
“start over.”

2.
The best way to interact with this app is to use the explore-by-touch method,
especially once you have downloaded audiobooks to your bookshelf.

3.
Do not attempt to download eBook titles for they are not currently VoiceOver
accessible.

4.
After you enter your library card number , be certain to place a checkmark in
the “remember me” box. Each time you need to login, thereafter, you will only
need to enter your 4-digit PIN. Quite a time saver, to say the least.

5.
While some will bristle at this suggestion, I recommend that you have a sighted
person with you when first learning the app as such an individual can help you
quickly learn the layout of the display.

6.
The good news is, that now, regardless of your library, the layout for all of
the screens are consistent. This is to say, that regardless of your library,
all searches and their subsequent results use the same layout; this was not
always the case in the recent past.

7.
While it may not make sense at first, in addition to using your library card,
it is a good idea to go to http://overdrive.com and create an OverDrive
account. This will make things easier as you become a more advanced user.
This is not necessary in the beginning but it is something you may wish to do
down the proverbial road.

8.
While I can now search and download titles in as few as 10 minutes, this was
not always the case. Think of OverDrive as an investment. This is to say, it
will take time to learn but, if you’re an avid audio book enthusiast, it will
be well worth the effort. I suggest that you give yourself at least an hour or
two, when exploring the app and its features.

Now, here is a typical scenario on downloading a title. Please keep in mind
that this is just one possible scenario:

1.
Open the app. The bookshelf will be displayed. This bookshelf is not in a
list but, rather, a two column table that will display the cover art of each
book.

2.
Activate the Main Menu button.

3.
Assuming that you’ve already added your library, activate it from the main
menu. This will bring up your library’s home screen.

4.
Place voiceover focus on the search edit field. VoiceOver will say something
like, “Search, shows pop-up.” Single-finger, double-tap. Doing this will
cause the Advance search button to appear just below and slightly to the left
of the search edit field.

5.
Activate the Advance search button. Doing this will cause the advance search
page, consisting of several edit and pop-up fields, to be displayed. Here,
you can enter a specific title, or you can search by author, subject, reading
level, etc. . Use the explore-by-touch for best results. In the
search-by-format field, set the ticker to “all audio books.” The default
setting for this field is all books.

6.
Near the bottom of this screen activate the search button.

7.
Use the explore-by-touch method to read your search results. The search
results are displayed in a 2-column table, complete with cover art for each
title.

Okay, I’ve been working on this email for over an hour and must attend to other
matters.

I hope this gets you started on your journey with Over Drive.

Mark

That was Mark Taylor.
Perhaps he will chime in with more details.
I have not used OverDrive that much.

Hello everyone,

Earlier, someone mentioned Overdrive as one of their favorite Apps. I am sorry,
but i can not remember who it was.

Anyway, i installed the App, chose my library, and entered my information. I
had to ask my roommate to read me my library card number, as i did not have
that memorized.

Anyway, after doing all this, i then went and verified my email address. The
process went smoothly, which was great.

Now, how do i go about reading audiobooks from my library?
I am a bit confused by this. I could see some titles that were recommended. But
it did not say if they were from my actual library, but from something like,
Missouri to go.

All i could see were such options as, on hold, wish list, and a couple of other
options. I just can not remember them now.

Any help with this App would be very much appreciated. I am very excited to try
this out!

Thank you,

Terri

 Hi Alan,
Line earlier, Terry said that he had the favorite channels all set up and
didn't have to do any kind of sign in. He didn't have to give them his email
address or sign in with Facebook or some other thing like Google. Is that true
for you too? As previously described, when I was in the favorite channels list
and trying to double tap things to select them, all I got was the screen
telling me to sign in. When I dismissed it and went back to favorites, double
tapping what I wanted, I ended up with nothing. All I got was that screen kept
wanting me to sign in.
