If you search on Google you will find reports of more battery drain and reports
of better battery life with pretty much every major and minor iOS update.
People use their phones in certain ways, then they update and maybe some
process hangs and uses lots of battery power or maybe they use a new feature or
some settings get reset during the update which cause the phone to use more
(or less) battery and that is generally all it takes.
While Apple may not say it is necessary I still think closing your apps from
time to time is a good thing and also to definitely close all your apps before
an update I think is a Must. I also do believe that as a minimum one should
power cycle the phone before an update and, if you don’t mind re-entering your
WiFi password, do a Reset Network Settings after you did your backup and close
everything, in many cases this will help avoid issues.

Sieghard

I too have not seen any drainage on my iPod Touch 6, iPhone 5s or my work
iPhone 6s.

Hi,

It has to be on certain models or under certain situations because my Iphone 6
has no issue with battery draining at all. In fact, it seems to me that my
battery is lasting longer than prior to 10.2.

Happy New Year, everyone!

I am poised to update to iOS 10.2, but I am confused by reports of
serious battery draining. Is this a universal problem, or is it
limited to specific models of phones? I'm using an iPhone 5 with 16
GB of storage.

Thanks for all help.
