Hi Sieghard,
Thanks for the instructions on how to make a place marker. I could understand
now how to use this handy tools with your example.

Subject: How to quickly look up an app including it's price or whether it's
free, was: Talking clock for on the hour announcement.

Hi Michael and List:

Here is a link for the Voiceover Clock app:
https://itunes.apple.com/ca/app/voice-over-clock/id594106139?mt=8

If you or anybody else is wondering about whether an app is free or paid
consider looking it up in a simple way, takes you no more time than to write an
email to the list asking and of course since then you have to wait for somebody
else to look it up or reply because maybe they know the price, it's actually a
lot faster. I do this simply by opening Google, go to the search field and type
in the app name followed by "on the app store" or "on iTunes". In this case I
would write "Voiceover clock on the app store". In 9 out of 10 cases the first
search result will be a direct link to the app I am looking for on the iTunes
app store, I press enter on that and then use headings to find the information,
read the description or look for the price.

If you want to set up a quick method to look up the price and are using Jaws
and Internet Explorer or Firefox, you can do the following:
Bring up virtual find with Jaws Key+Control+F and type "Category" in the search
field, then press enter.
This will take you to the app category, e.g. with Voiceover clock it would say
"Category: Lifestyle where "Lifestyle" is a link. If you were, for example,
doing the search in Google "KNFB Reader on iTunes" and did the category search
it would say "Category: Productivity".

The nice thing with this is that the price is always listed right above the
category, so if you find the category and arrow up once you will either hear
"Free" as in the case of Voiceover Clock or, in the case of KNFB Reader you
would hear $139.99 (I am in Canada and that is the price in canadian dollars.
You can take this even a step further and set up a Jaws placemarker when you
are on the Category and that way any time you do a Google search for an app and
then follow the link to the app store you just type the quick nav key "K" for
placemarker and it jumps straight to the category, arrow up once and you have
the price. To do this, follow these steps:

1. Find the category, for example, go to where it says "Category: Lifestyle"
when you are on the Voiceover Clock page.
2. Press Control+Shift+K to bring up the placemarker dialogue, then press Alt+A
to add a placemarker 3. It will say "Category: Lifestyle" in the placemarker
name, just edit this to only say "Cateegory".
4. Tab once and check the checkbox "Define for all pages on current domain"
5. Tab one more time and check the checkbox "Anchor to text"
6. Tab one more time and in the anchor to text edit box again change the text
from "Category: Lifestyle" simply to the word "Category".
7. Tab to OK and activate it with spacebar or enter.

Now go back to Google and try another search like "KNFB Reader on iTunes" or
"Downcast on iTunes".
Use the quick nav key "2" for heading level 2 which takes you to the heading
"Search Results", then "3" which takes you straight to the first search result
which is "knfbReader on the App Store - iTunes - Apple". Press enter on it.
After the page loads just press the quick nav key "K", Jaws should now say
"Category: Productivity", arrow up once for the price and that's it. I just
timed myself doing a search starting from right here as I am writing this post.
I used my Windows Key+1 shortcut which loads Internet Explorer, then I typed in
"Tap Tap See on iTunes" and pressed enter, then I did the "2" and "3", pressed
enter on the search result and after the page loaded I pressed "K" and arrowed
up once to hear "Free". All of this took about 10 seconds.

Keep in mind that this will not work on an iPhone if you want to look up an app
you have already installed.
Whether you use Safari or the Google app to search, once you find the link to
an app you already have on your phone it will actually open the App Store app
with the app loaded. You will have an "Open" button instead of the "Get" button
which you would have if an app is free or the button showing the price if it is
paid. Of course if you have never bought/downloaded the app this would still
work although it's much faster to do this on a computer with Jaws. I assume
NVDA may have similar quick nav keys you can use and maybe the Mac does as
well, but I'm not sure if NVDA or the Mac has the ability to set a placemarker
or to do a virtual find for "Category".

Regards,
Sieghard

Hi! Folks: I am wondering if anybody knows if the voice over clock app has a
price tag on it, or is it free. Please let me know. I was thinking about
checking out something like that for myself.

Thanks much in advance.
