I believe you double tap and hold on the image, after which you will get prompts, one of which I believe is save; it will go to photos. If the double tap and hold doesn't do it, if you double tap on the attachments, you may get options that include save. It has been a while, so is why I am a little vague. If save isn't one of the options for either way, it could be under share, which would include open or cofpy to, in which case it wouldd go to photos.
