Hello Simon, I have found if my email sound doesn't ring on my iPhone the phone was put into the mute position. The mute position on my iPhone 6S is above the volume button to increase the volume. It is a switch that presses up and down like a light switch. Your phone should say muted in the down position and un-muted in the up position. Hope this helps. Connie
