I was extremely disappointed in Apple. I went to the store a couple of days ago, which isn't real close to me, and asked to see the AirPods. They did not have any in stock and didn't even have one for demo. I thought they were much better at retail than that.
I guess I will continue to wait and probably wait until the next generation. It seems there might be a few bugs left in design in operation.
