Hi, Assuming you've tried rebooting your device, perhaps a clean install of 5.1.1 might be the next thing to try. An app won't be what's causing the heat problem so at this point I'd be hoping that a restore would fix it. A 3gs will be super cheap now given the release of the 5; if a restore doesn't fix it and you can afford to, I'd probably try and buy another 3GS or perhaps even something newer.
