Hello,

Well, I was too impatient when my phone sat at 96% for about 5 minutes. What
made me wonder was the fact that the status line did not indicate any
network activity, so I turned my phone off and restarted. When I went back
to Software Updates it told me my 5.1.1 was the current version so I just
hooked it up to my computer, opened iTunes and clicked on "Check for
Updates". iTunes told me iOS 6 was available, I clicked "Download and
Install" and everything went without a hitch. It still downloaded slow, but
the update went fine and after my iPhone rebooted iTunes told me that
updated carrier settings were also available and did I want to download
them. I have an unlocked 4S on the Canadian carrier Koodo which is owned by
Telus, one of the 3 major carriers here. I told it to go ahead and update.
Then I unlocked my phone, it asked me to accept the licence agreement, I had
to put in my Apple Id password for iCloud, iMessage etc. and eventually I
was back on my home screen. Only new app on my first home screen was
Passbook which caused the last app that was there previously to be bumpted
to page 2, but it was by its lonely there and everything had been shifted
another page, not a big deal. I also noted that Voiceover was using the
compact Voice even though I previously had been using the high quality
voice, but since I had it plugged in the high quality voice came back
suddenly after about 8 or 10 minutes. I was just exploring the new settings
and had just gone into the Voiceover settings to check this out when it
switched, I guess it has to redownload for the new iOS.

Now everything is working perfectly and I really have to get to work, I
guess I might even try out the new maps on my way. From what a few people
reported it seems that doing it via the computer may have saved me some
troubles in the end and I think I'll remember that maybe to do the next
major update that way again instead of over the air.

Good luck and enjoy everybody,

Sieghard
