Did you allow the app access to the microphone when you opened it the first time? It would have asked and you would have had to select “Allow” and double tap to activate it.

Not a big deal as there are not a lot of things to choose in Settings, once you set it up the way you want you probably won’t need to go into Settings very often. Anyway, all you have to do to undim the button is to tap the record button and then tap it again. I made a bunch of short recordings that way just to test it out. It worked fine. The player button takes you to the list of recordings. I really like the button that lets you go back 15 seconds since I do a lot of transcribing. I usually use list recorder full but it goes back by 10% of the recording. I am using iPhone 6S.
