Sieghard,

I apologize but synching music to my old Iphone 5 is just not working for me.

I have followed your instructions several times and all I can get it to do is synch from the phone to my laptop.

You indicated that there should be a checkbox for synching music to the iphone. this checkbox never shows up on the screen for me. I have even had my sighted wife watch the process and she says it doesn't show up.

Any other ideas?

Thanks.

Hi Dan,

You don't "download" but "add" music to the iTunes library. It doesn't matter
where your music is, but keep in mind that once you add a file or folder with music files to the
music library in iTunes, the music will not longer play if you later move the files or folder to a
different location.
Having said this, I recommend that even if you have your mnusic on an external
drive or in a particular location that you set up, that if you have enough
space on your hard drive you copy the music to the iTunes\iTunes Media\Music
folder. If you do a default install of iTunes you should have an iTunes folder
in your Music or My Music folder, in that folder is a iTunes Media folder and
in that you have your folders for all the different media types like music,
movies, tones etc.
Once you have it in that folder or, if you want to leave it where it is, simply open
iTunes, go to the File menu and select "Add folder to Library". This opens a
pretty standard Windows dialogue, browse to the folder where your music is and then tab
to Select and activate it. If you have multiple locations you have to of course repeat
this step, but if all your music is in a single folder even if there are many subfolders
and subfolders in those subfolders it will all be added. Depending on how much music it
is this could take a few seconds or it could take maybe as long as 10, 20 or even 30
seconds. There should be a tritone once the import is complete.
At this point your music library is populated, think of the entires as
shortcuts to the actual music files, therefore, if you change the location of a
file or a folder the shortcut no longer works.
In order to transfer music to your iPhone you have to connect your phone, go to the "iPhone" button and activate it. This will take you to the device
area of iTunes rather than the library area. Here you tab a few times and you end up in a treeview which has "Summary" as the first item at the top.
Now you can down arrow to apps, music, movies, TV shows, tones and so on. Go to Music, then tab and look for a checkbox called "Sync Music" and check
it. Tab a few more times and you now have the option to either select to "Sync all music" if your entire collection fits on your iPhone or to
"Sync selected music". If you select the second option you can then tab some more and you will find list views for genre, playlists, artist or album.
If, for example, you want to add by artist, go to that list view, arrow down the list and each artist you want to add just press the spacebar to check it, when
you are done tab a bunch of times until you get to the "Apply" button or you can go to the File menu, press "v" for Devices and select
"Sync".

Regards,
Sieghard

Subject: Itunes and downloading music from hard drive to Iphone

HI,

I have quite a lot of music I have on my hard drive that I have ripped from CDs
I have bought.

How do I use Itunes to copy that from the hard drive to my Iphone? I
looked at Itunes but do not see an option to search the hard drive for
music.

Thanks.
