I have a friend in South Africa and we speak a lot via What's app. I have
had no problems.

Hello, everyone.
A friend of mine from Germany is visiting the U.S. for a few weeks and
has brought her iPhone with her. She does not have a data plan for
the States, and my phone plan does not allow me to phone a German
mobile phone at a low cost. We are considering FaceTime or WhatsApp
as a way to keep in touch. I am rather wary of WhatsApp since I have
heard reports that its address book sharing can introduce malware into
the iPhone. I have no idea if these reports are credible. Does
anyone have any experience with comparing FaceTime and WhatsApp in a
scenario such as the one I have described? Note that we are not
interested in exchanging any video component, just voice data.
