I've tried it several times & am not able to get that to work for me. Yes,
doubletapp inserts period is & has been turned on in settings. I'll keep
fooling around with it. Thanks much for your help.

You mean a double tap of the space bar, right? I just tried this and
tapping
the space bar twice quickly still inserts a period as always and starts a
new sentence with the first letter capitalized. Make sure you have this
feature turned on in "Settings" and "Keyboard".

I would also agree. I can type a bit faster as well. The triple tap to

Ironically, I feel differently: I've found that my typing speed is now
significantly faster because it used to be very slow to enter
punctuation, numbers, and to hastily delete a mistyped character. I
therefore am a fan of the changes.
I will say, though, that there are a couple of inconsistencies: I
would have expected the behaviour to have also changed for the enter
key, which it hasn't, and the delete key in the phone app still
retains the classic behaviour. You can't touch and hold it to activate
it.
