I have just tried it for myself and once you have double tapped on more swipe to the right and you should hear delete it does work I promise.

Janet make sure the text is highlighted by placing your finger on it so that you can hear voice over read the actual message. now swipe down with one finger and you will hear the word more. double tap with one finger after you hear the word more. now swipe left to rise and the first you will hear is delete and swipe again left to right and you will then hear forward. double tap after you here forward. The screen will now change and you are ready to add the contact in the To field. if I was forwarding a message to a friend, I would then add a little bit of info before the message. to do this I would double tap in the body of the message, if VoiceOver said at the start of the line, I would then double tap again.j this time VoiceOver might say at end, are it might say at start. provided I was at the start I would then write my piece of information. hope I have been able to make myself understood.
