To purchase Audible books and then download them to your iDevice, you'll need either an Audible or Amazon account. I found it advantageous to link my Audible and Amazon accounts a good while back so I only have to worry with remembering my Amazon account details. You have to purchase your Audible book either on your computer after logging into your account or on your iDevice using Safari or another browser app to go to Audible and purchase it. You cannot purchase Audible books with the Audible app. Once you've acquired the book and it's in your Audible library, you can download it to your device for listening using the Audible app. Make sure you investigate getting a free Audible book as a new account holder. They used to offer this and I assume it's still available.
