It is done through the app. after your ride concludes the screen will
change, and on that payment screen there is an option to choose your tip
amount.

You can get estimates for both Uber and Lyft from within the Google Maps
app. There's also an app called Ride Fair that can at least give you
estimates on wait time.
The website Ride Guru: https://ride.guru/ can also give you estimates on
fares for every rideshare service. You just have to punch in your
departing and destination addresses. I have this URL saved to one of my
iPhone's homescreens for quick and easy access.
