Moving apps and folders in and out of the dock certainly is a workable and useful technique. However, now I'm finding that with more practice (I had to move a lot of apps around yesterday when for some reason they weren't in their folders any more and I apparently only had the latest backup) I am finding it easier and easier to move apps and folders directly from page to page.
