The option to have a tone played instead of Voiceover saying “Cap” is in a new
settings group called Verbocity. This of course is in Voiceover Settings right
after “Speech” and it is now where the “Speak Hints” and “Punctuation” options
are and a whole bunch more choices.

Where did you find this information concerning caps?

Subject: Extra tone when exiting apps

Hi List,

I’m surprised none of you with sensitive ears have brought this up, but in iOS
11 when you press the home button to close an app and return to the home
screen, the little tone you hear now plays twice. It plays when you press the
home button, then Voiceover speaks the name of the app you are on and
immediately afterwards the little tone plays again.
I find it mildly annoying although I’m sure I get used to it. I just emailed
Apple Accessibility about it because as far as I am concerned that is a bug
unless theytell me it’s by design. If the latter then I wonder why, on the one
hand they got rid of the “Screen Locked” announcement in iOS 10 and replaced
with a fairly unremarkable sound which I personally like, on the other hand now
in iOS 11 they introduce extra noise.
And since we are on the topic of noise, how many have enabled to hear a tone
for upper case letter instead of Voiceover saying “Caps”? I like the idea, but
I find the brassy tone they have assigned to this quite abbrasive and think it
would be nice if they replaced it with something more pleasant like maybe a
raindrop sort of sound or, even better of course, let them give us a choice of
3 or 4 tones for this.

Regards,
Sieghard
