Hi Mary,
There are several ways to do this, but the syntax I have settled on is to say:
"create an appointment titled Dr. Smith on November first at 10 AM."
Siri will repeat it and ask if you want it scheduled, say yes and you are done.

You can add the length of the appointment to by saying create a 90 minute 
appointment, and so on.

Occasionally I have tried to use Siri to make a calendar entry. Usually 
something messes up. I think there is a certain specific syntax you have to 
use, and then it works. I don't use it often enough to remember that syntax. 
Can someone please refresh my memory. It would be awfully nice if Siri could 
become smart enough not to need specific syntax in order to get a simple 
calendar entry correct. Maybe this has improved in iOS 11??
