Hello Steve, You can choose to have apps updated, automatically, but I suggest that you leave things as they are on your device.
This is because, at present, you have the option to not update a specific app, should you first learn from others, that doing so will break VoiceOver access. However, should you decide to turn on automatic updates, you can find the option to do so in the iTunes and App Store area of the Settings menu.
