According to Jonathon Mosen's podcast this will work if you have not already
upgraded to 11.1. The X comes with 11.03 so the automatic transfer will only
work if they are running the same version.

My wife’s new iPhone X is about to arrive: as everything possible is synced
to iCloud, will using the auto-setup feature by placing old phone next to
new phone transfer the same data and passwords as doing a restore from
iCloud backup? It certainly seems easier, especially if new iPhone X arrives
with an earlier version of iOS than my wife’s current iPhone 7!
