I am using the ear pods with my iPhone 4S, and I do not have that problem.
I hear nothing when I change the volume.

One issue I've noted and am curious if it is the phone, software or the
headset…
When listening to music, if the phone is locked, by pressing the volume up
or down, the phone will unlock and announce the time.
This is beyond annoying, and I'm wondering if others have experienced it at
all?
