No it does not render the Calendar app useless; it just makes it annoying. 
Useless would imply that no workaround exists and you could not access any of 
the functionality. As I have already stated, simply switching from month view 
to day view and back will be the workaround for now. I and I am sure others 
have filed the issue with APple via [email protected] and it will be 
addressed.
