Just deliverately tested this in two separate emails and a text message and each time I changed from Characters to Word to Lines the setting was immediately active and respected.

Also, iOS 11.2 was just released today and while what you describe Is not a known problem from what I have seen on the list, a lot of other bugs got fixed in iOS 11.2 and anybody who has a previous version of iOS 11 should definitely upgrade. Also he is using IOs 11.x last release. He has shown me that when he tries to switch the rotor to read word by word. Voice over continue reading as default, line by line. I have tried to switch the rotor, and I have seen the same problem in a different iPhone, with running the first version of IOs 11. Has someone seen this issue trying to read word by word.
