Not, strictly, iPhone-related, but close enough I guess!
Now I am halfway through the Impossible 50 in Seven Words, and ain't there some
doozies in that lot?
but what I want to ask, and if there are any linguisticians: I made that word
up: I must submit
it to the compilers! linguists already exists, but why not add to the general
lexicon on the list?
the clue was "site of battle" and the answer was cockpit.
OK! cockpit was where fighting gamecocks tore each other to pieces for the
entertainment of the
craven masses but a cockpit is also, as we all know, where the pilot and flight
crew hang out in an
aircraft; what is the connection? not, I hope, because it is the site of
battle!
On further thought, on a Bowing triple seven and other jet passenger airliners
etc, * flight deck
is used more often than cockpit which may be, these days, reserved for small
aircraft and planes of
war where it would be, most, appropriate!
