If 2-factor authentication is enabled you need to use a so-called app specific password for certain apps and programs on the computer. I never had problems using these, it’s not just Apple which uses them, also Microsoft and Google. I have 2-factor authentication enabled for my @outlook.com email as well as for my Office 365 business email and I had to generate 4 or 5 app specific passwords to use on each of my computers with Outlook and for the Mail app on my iPhone. You can only use a particular app specific password on one device, if you have an iPhone and a laptop you need two separate app specific passwords.

Hi Chris, I don’t recall any particular issues activating two factor authentication. I did it quite some time ago. The only issues I have ever had with that have been on android devices, where I wanted to activate Apple Music, and it required some kind of special thing that never worked right. I don’t think that has anything to do with 2FA per se. I understand that it is very difficult to do that with voice over. I also heard that the code you receive via text to authenticate your device is time sensitive and it expires within 30 seconds or so. For those who succeeded in activating the two factors authentication, how did you do that? Are there any tips you may want to share?
