Hi,
Actually, I tapped on the offending message and, under 'Details', I saw that
'Hide Alerts' was toggled 'on'. I toggled it to 'off' and 'Muted' was gone.
How it got toggled to 'on' for this one individual is a total mystery.

In iOS 11.x, You have inadvertently muted the conversation from that
particular contact.
Just perform a single-finger swipe up or down gesture in order to unmute
the conversation.

I'm getting text messages from one person with the word "muted" next to
the name in the message list. I'm not being notified that the message has
arrived. Never seen this before. Just wondering which end has the
problem, sender or receiver.
