Interestingly enough, a recent kim Komando article said that nothing is
accomplished or helped by closing apps in the app switcher, that supposedly
apps are frozen when not in use, and do not consume any system resources.

Aside from checking all the settings like push on email, background
activity, closing apps out of the app switcher, how old is your device?
You may need to contact Apple, or if possible, take it in to get it
thoroughly checked out.
