Larry it works just fine in iOS 6. Most people find performing this action challenging because it is based on timing. WIth practice you will become successful. The taps have to be pretty close together and I would say within one second of each other. Again, with practice you will get it. Although I have had very good success, I on occasion find that I have not performed the action properly and ended up with a space instead.
