Hi Jewel,

This is how I get Voice Over to pronounce names / words correctly. I'm
running a SE model with iOS 10.33.
1. Go to Settings / General / Accessibility / Voice Over / Speech, & single
finger double tap to open.
2. Swipe right to, Pronunciations button, & single finger double tap to
open.
3. Swipe to, Add button, single finger double tap to open.
4. You enter the original text in the, Phrase field, swipe right to the,
substitution field, & enter how you want it pronounced. Note: You might
have to misspell it to get your phrase pronounced correctly.
5. Now, swipe right to the, Dictate replacement button, single finger double
tap to start recording, & follow the prompts.
Now check your handy work!
Take care. Mike. Sent from my iBarstool.

I was looking back through some of my saved messages, when I came across
Richard's on correcting Siri's pronounciation of names. Siri says my name
beautifully, but I want to get voice-over to say chess, rather than chiss.
Aussie Karen says * less with no problem, so why can't she say * chess? The
world is not going to come to an end if she continues to say chiss, but to
get her to say chess correctly would be a feather in my moulting cap!

This is what I found on the web:

How to Get Siri to Say Your Name Correctly
By Sarah Kingsbury updated on 07/07/2016

Siri isn’t always so great at pronouncing names correctly. The AI is great
for calling or sending messages, but it’s incredibly frustrating when you
tell Siri to call Jaqueline and the AI searches the web for Violins.
Luckily, you can teach Siri to pronounces your name or any name. Part of the
personal assistant's capabilities is being able to learn. Whether it’s your
name or a friends, you can correct Siri’s pronunciation in a few short
steps. Here’s how to get Siri to say your name correctly.

To teach Siri how to say a name correctly,

hold the home button to activate Siri and then say, "That's not how

Siri will then ask you how to pronounce the contact's first name. Say the
name correctly.

Siri will offer you two or three pronunciation options to choose from.
Select the one that is the correct pronunciation.

If none of the options are close enough, tap Tell Siri Again to repeat the
process until you get a pronunciation you like.

Siri will then repeat the process for the contact's last name as well.
Having corrected Siri’s pronunciation, the AI should be able to say your
name, or a friend's name, correctly now.

Hi I have someone in my contact list that one time siri asked me how to
say that persons name.
So now how can you correct that way siri is saying the name if you didn't
like what she has changed it to if you have already had her make the change
once?
And told her that was the way to say it.
